African mudcloth is a traditional Malian fabric that is dyed with fermented mud and plant dyes. The cloth is sun-dried then painted repeatedly with fermented mud, which chemically reacts with the tree leaves and leaves the cloth a rich brown even after the mud is washed off.
We receive these mudcloths from Yara African Fabrics, who specialize in a beautiful assortment of rich African patterns and colors such as wax print, batik, tie dye, and brocade.
One piece of fabric is:
• approximately 2 yards long
• 48 - 52 inches wide
